Starting from April 2016, Microsoft has introduced a new home page experience for office 365 users. The new Office365 home page experiences is available to users who log into https://Office.com. Over the next few months, Microsoft will be redirecting users who connect via the previously used https://portal.office.com to the new pages.
Visitors to the site Office.com , are not logged into the site will have a different experience than
those who are logon with their Office 365 account. They will get a welcome site to try Office 365 for free or to use the Online version of the Office applications.
Microsoft is making the change to give a more intuitive home page experience to its office 365 users and provide a fresh look and feel to the welcome page. For one, I have to say the URL is easier to work with for users, just using Office.com and dropping the portal. The experience hopes to provide a level of consistency across all platforms that access the site’s services.
The new home page shows recently used or worked on documents. This gives the user the option to open and start working on the documents right from the home page to the site. Like the previous version, the users will have the app launcher in the top left corner of the site.
Below are the examples of the old experience and the new (for both users and admins)
